Stat man needs to go back and check but I think records were broken some good and some not so good, but Nebraska goes on the road in a tough environment to take home a cruicial non conf road victory!
This was a back and forth game with TTU holding a 21-14 edge after first but Neb holding a 35-28 edge at half. Then the game got a little tight at the end of the 3rd qrt with it all tied at 49-49.
The fantastic 4th qrt saw 2 lead changes 2 ties and a game winning FG as time expired in what went as scripted "team with the ball last wins..." what set that up was all tied up less than a minute left TTU ran a shortside option and Morton fumbled at their own 35yardline setting NU up with great position to close the game out.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders welcomed #10 and last year 12-team CFP participant #10 Nebraska to Lubbock but were unable to secure a much-needed win and fall to 0-2 (0-0) with one more non-conference matchup to go before conference play opens. Red Raiders coach AUChase welcomed the challenge hoping to prepare his team for what is going to be a very challenging conference play with a lot of coaching turnover and teams replacing coaches with proven winners.
This game was a shootout as neither team could come up with stops consistently, but overall Nebraska’s defense made plays when it counted and were able to lock up the win late in the game. One of the key statistics in the game is first downs. Nebraska had 32 first downs and only 7 third down attempts whereas Texas Tech had only 19 first downs with 7 third down attempts. Nebraska continued to have sustained drives opposed to the Red Raiders who scored on big plays more often. The Red Raiders had the ball late with a chance to win the game, but a late game coaching blunder and fumble put Nebraska in position to win the game with a field goal.
After the game coach AUChase told us “ I sit before you after our second straight out of conference loss. We lost last week by 1 point and this week by 3. The margin for error in this league is very thin and we are learning that the hard way. At the end of the day, we can’t hang our hat on moral victories because it’s either you won or you lost. The truth is we are very much alive still due to both of these losses coming out of conference but this league is one of the toughest out there. It’s my job to evaluate the film, my decision making, and the future and make a plan to put us in a competitive position in this conference. I still love this team and think there’s a lot of potential in this locker room. Congrats to Coach Spyder and Nebraska. They played a great game and were clutch when it counted most.”
