In season 29, Notre Dame reignited the NDL with a showdown against the dominant SEC, welcoming Alabama to South Bend. Season 30 got underway tonight for the Irish, returning the SEC favor by making a trip to Auburn to take on the Tigers!
The Notre Dame defense brought the full arsenal to the battle, forcing 3 fumbles in the first 2 quarters and silencing the stunned Auburn faithful. Coach Clevenole tried to rally the troops, but being put in an awful situation by the football gods, left the Tigers clawing up a steep mountain. Offensively, Riley Leonard dialed up Mitchell Evans for 4 catches on the day, for 120 yards, with 3 of them finishing in the end zone. Jeremiyah Love ended up with a reduced load due to the game getting a bit out of hand early, while the offense leaned on Jadarian Price to keep the chains moving. Overall, the front 7 on each side of the ball played excellent and we could only hope to get this kind of production out of the team in future games.
Coach Reign: Everything was clicking on both sides of the ball and the football gods decided to layer it on and shower us with blessings. That's a tough situation for any opponent and my hats off to the Tigers for pulling up the boots and trying to fight back. We saw some glimpses of the speed that Auburn has out there today and I think we were fortunate for the opportunities that we given. Best of luck to Coach Clevenole in his SEC matchups.
It's not as bad as Coach CleveNole thought it was going to be after summer workouts, it is much worse! While walking off the field sideline reporters tried to get a few questions in with Coach CleveNole, but he abruptly stopped them from asking anything. "Don't even waste your time, we already wasted your last few hours with that showing. We can't hold onto the ball, can't read a defense if our life depended on it, and basically look like we just want to cash NIL checks and drive our Dodge Chargers". They want to live that Bama lifestyle, while playing JUCO level ball. This is gross, and at this time if this is how they want to go out and represent themselves I'm calling my guy Jimmy Sexton and letting him know to start looking for the next opportunity"
As Coach started to leave the field, he doubled back and shared "I just want to make sure this isn't a swipe at Coach Reign, he had his boys ready. More than I can say for myself. I have some soul searching to do along with these boys."
