Tigers Survive and Advance Against MD

Article By: bucknut333

The LSU Tigers hosted Big 10 hopeful Maryland this past Saturday in Death Valley for the last out of conference game of the year. The Terrapins came in hot, winning their last 5 games and looking for a statement win. LSU started the game with the ball and on the 2nd play of the game, All-American hopeful RB Durham took a screen pass to the house for 79 yds. The Death Valley crowd was raucous, but was silenced early as the Terrapins had a dominant 9 play 76 yd TD drive through a strong ground game. The Tigers responded horribly as star QB Nussmeier threw an unusually miscalculated INT giving Maryland great field position. Death Valley still remained strong and forced the Terrapin Kicker to miss a 43 yd FG and allow the Tigers to drive down and steal a FG. Maryland responded with a FG of their own after another lengthy drive and the score going into halftime was tied 10-10.

After a tough halftime speech from Coach Bucknut, the Tigers flew out of the half with their hair on fire. After a quick TD from Maryland, All-Everything returner Zavion Thomas did what he does best and returned the kickoff 101 yds for a TD to tie the game again. The Fightin Tiger D had enough of the Terrapin ground game and forced another Mayland missed FG. Caden Durham and Co. took the golden opportunity and drove it right down the field for a rushing TD to go up 7 to be leading for the first time in the game. The Tiger D continued to remain tough, forced a turnover on downs, and Nussmeier called game on a RPO pass to TE Taylor to seal the win. 31-17 Final.

LSU looks to face their toughest test of the year next week traveling to Tuscaloosa to face #4 ranked Alabama.
