Zips Fall In Lid-Lifter to Lobos

Article By: sagesammons

The game between the New Mexico Lobos and the Akron Zips in Akron, Ohio, was a dominant performance by the Lobos from start to finish. New Mexico received the opening kickoff and quickly set the tone, using a strong running game to gain first downs and eventually score a touchdown on its opening drive. Akron’s offense struggled to gain momentum, going three-and-out on their first possession, while New Mexico capitalized on the Zips' struggles.

New Mexico’s defense shined when Akron quarterback Tahj Bullow threw an interception at the goal line, stopping a potential scoring opportunity. The Lobos' quarterback showcased his speed and athleticism, leading his team down the field for another touchdown, pushing their lead to three possessions.

Akron briefly regained momentum with a deep touchdown pass when Bullock connected with Alex Adams, but New Mexico answered quickly with another score, reasserting their dominance. Akron’s woes continued as they missed a field goal on their next drive, followed by a third interception that gave the Lobos favorable field position. Although New Mexico missed a field goal of their own, they soon converted a 43-yard attempt to further extend their lead.

Akron’s offense remained out of sync throughout the game, with Bullock’s decision-making under heavy scrutiny. After failing on a critical fourth down pass attempt to close the second quarter, Akron couldn’t recover in the second half. New Mexico’s running game continued to impress, with their dynamic running back creating big plays and keeping the chains moving. Bullock threw a fourth and then a fifth interception, effectively sealing the Zips' fate.

New Mexico missed another field goal late in the game, but it made little difference, as Akron’s offense remained ineffective, struggling to generate any significant yardage.

Bullock finished 13-of-30 for 169 yards with the lone touchdown pass to go with the five interceptions. Adams made five receptions for 95 yards in the contest as the lone bright spot for the Zips.
