Panthers Take a Bite Outta Ohio

Article By: GraysonHulett

The Georgia State Panthers pulled off a hard-fought 31-28 win over the Ohio Bobcats up in Ohio, and let me tell ya, it was a sweet one.

Quarterback Christian Veilleux was steady under center hittin' 12 of 18 passes for 164 yards and a couple of touchdowns. But it was the big ol offensive line that really took over, pushin' the Panthers ground game to a total of 222 yards. Running back Freddie Brock was the star of the show, gettin’ the ball 27 times for a monstrous 174 yards and a touchdown. He ran like a man on a mission.

The defense was downright stingy, turnin’ the tables by forcing five turnovers—four interceptions and one fumble. Linebacker Justin Abraham was a real difference-maker, rackin’ up 11 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. He was all over the field, like a bull in a china shop.

Kicker Liam Rickman was rock-solid too, goin’ 4/4 on extra points and bootin' a clutch 35-yard field goal that proved to be the difference.

With this win in the bag, the Panthers are lookin ahead, ready to keep that momentum rollin’ as they finish out the season strong.

A tough one!

Ohio Bobcats: 28

Coach Allen’s Comments:
“Tonight was a tough one for us. We came out battling, but unfortunately, we fell short against a very talented Georgia State team. The effort was there, but execution in critical moments is what separates winners and losers, and we have to clean that up moving forward.”

Offensive Highlights:
“Our quarterback, Parker Navarro, showed resilience in his first game back after serving his suspension. He went 19-for-29 for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns. While he also threw 4 interceptions, I know he’ll learn and grow from this experience. Parker’s return gives our offense a spark, and I’m confident he’ll lead us to better performances as the season progresses.”

Defensive Effort:
“CJ Doggette and Miles Fleming anchored our defense tonight. Doggette made his presence known with 7 total tackles and consistently disrupted Georgia State’s offense. Fleming continues to be a leader on the field, contributing both in tackling and in keeping the secondary locked in. However, we struggled to contain their rushing attack, giving up 222 yards on the ground. That’s an area we need to focus on during practice.”

Key Takeaways:
“We have to be better on both sides of the ball when it matters most. Georgia State converted 58% of their third downs, which extended drives and kept our defense on the field. Offensively, we need to limit turnovers and capitalize on opportunities when they arise. Special teams and discipline will also be a point of emphasis moving forward.”

Looking Ahead:
“I told the boys after the game that this loss doesn’t define us. What defines us is how we respond. We’ll get back to work, clean up our mistakes, and come back stronger. I believe in this team and their ability to grow together. This season is far from over.”
