For the fourth time in the 30 seasons of NDL (17, 18, and 25 were the other championship seasons), the Central Michigan Chippewas can say that they are the best team in MACtion. A dream come true for a head coach who passed on the opportunity to coach schools such as Alabama and Texas for an opportunity to put his alma mater back on the college football map. It seemed as though this victory was destiny as the Chips overcame a 10 point deficit with only 3 minutes to play to force OT and went on to win in double overtime off of a walk-off 5 yard touchdown run by Myles Bailey, as starting running back Marion Lukes was knackered from running for almost 300 yards before the game reached its conclusion.
Coach FiredUpChip had the following to say after the game "I have to be completely honest with all of you, when Bert Emmanuel threw that 2nd interception I thought it was over for us, but senior leader Donte Kent remarked 'come on Coach, I didn't hear a fat lady singing yet', and by golly did he make an incredible play on 3rd and long to force a punt and allow for us to drive down the field and let Tristan make his 3rd field goal of the game to force OT. Then for us to have an incredible goal line stand in double OT to force a field goal, there's nothing I can say that will do justice to how hard these kids worked today. Thank you Central Michigan University for believing in me, and thank you to all of my players for leaving everything they had on the field! FIRE UP CHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
