They didn't get to battle in the regular season., They didn't get to battle in the Conference Championship, but the CFP Committee made sure they got to finally see Cincy vs Baylor in the first rd of the playoffs.
Baylor received the opening kickoff, and after being forced into a quick 3rd and long, they were able to convert up the seam to Reese. After a balanced attack that saw 3 different players catch a pass and 3 different players receive a carry, it was Dawson Pendergrass able to punch it in to take a 7-0 lead. The Bears defense was able to hold after a 3rd and long pass was knocked out of the hands of the receiver and Baylor was hunting for points again. With the 3-headed attack of Reese, Pendergrass and QB Finn, Baylor was able to get into FG range and go up 10-0.
After Cincy worked their way down the field navigating the middle of the field well, it was a 4th and 2 quick hitch to the slot that was knocked away and turned the Bearcats over back to the Bears. On the next set of downs, with just over 30 secs left in the half, it was time to take a shot, and it was Finn to Baldwin for 86 yards, Bears now lead 17-0. Cincy turned it over just before the break and Baylor was able to push the halftime lead to 20-0.
Cincy was able to score utilize their pass game and bring it to 20-7, but the Bears again on the back of their "other" rb Pendergrass, bully their way to a 26-7 lead, Cincy answers quickly with another long TD just out of the reach of the bears defenders and its 26-14.
The Bears did not panic, as this time its Finn to Baldwin as he beats double coverage up the right side, and the Bears are starting to smell roses, now up 33-14. The Bearcats were able to answer again, but unfortunately that was the last time they would find paydirt, as the Baylor Bears were able to consistently win the LOS and able to put thios game away 43-21 and look forward to taking on the Wildes'-led Iowa Hawkeyes in Baylor's first ever Rose Bowl Appearance
