Third-string QB Luke Kromenhoek threw a first quarter interception and fell behind early against Georgia Tech before rallying behind fourth-string running back Caziah Holmes. What was known, was that running back Lawrence Toafili would be serving the first of his 4-game suspension. What was not known, was that QB DJ Uiagalelei would be a healthy scratch. Backup Brock Glenn would remain just that, the backup. And Alabama transfer running back Roydell Williams would also miss the trip to Atlanta leaving Florida State with 2 scholarship running backs.
Holmes scored 4 touchdowns and gained 210 all-purpose yards, including 164 yards rushing in first career start. 150 of Holmes 210 yards were combined YAC/RAC as he ran through, over and around defenders all day. The Florida State offensive line combined for 28 pancake blocks, paving the way for a memorable season opener.
The Seminole defensive line harassed Georgia Tech in the trenches with 9 TFL, including 5 sacks. QB Haynes King's tough performance and 5 touchdown throws was marred by his 3 interceptions as he was pressured for much of the afternoon.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets couldn't come up with the win in the opening week. The defenses did not show up except for a handful of times throughout the game. Early in the game the Yellow Jackets picked off Luke Kromenhoek. However, none of that mattered and Haynes King throws three interceptions throughout the rest of the game that ultimately decided our fate. The game was a shootout and the Jackets fall short due to the turnovers 35 - 38. Onto the next!
