Bobcats Avoid Getting Zipped

The Ohio Bobcats came away with a conference win against the Akron zips today, 24-21. The Zips missed a 25 yard field goal in the 2nd quarter that turned out to be the difference in the game. With a 10-7 lead at halftime, The Bobcats opened the first half with a 10 play drive that ended when the Bobcats caught the Zips in a bad zone coverage and Coleman Owen got open down the middle for a 29 yard TD pass from Parker Navarro. The Bobcat D forced the zips to punt after just 5 plays and the Bobcats had the ball at their 19. On the opening play of the drive, the Zips free safety bit on play action and Owen was again able to get open on a deep post for a 81 yard TD to put the Bobcats up 24-7. Owen ended the day with 5 catches for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns.. After a TD drive by the zips late in the third, the Bobcats missed a 50 yard field goal to put them up by 13. The Zips saw a glimmer of hope and answered with a TD to bring them within 3 with 2:55 left to play. The Zips chose to kick it deep and trust their defense. Bobcats RB Anthony Tyus, who had 115 yards and a TD, continued to bully the Zips defense and picked up a couple first downs to seal the game for Ohio.
