Knoxville, Tennessee - The Florida Gators suffered their first defeat of the season today, losing to their rivals the Volunteers of Tennessee 27-24. The Gators came into a hostile Neyland Stadium knowing they were going to be in for a dog fight and that's exactly what they got as they fought tooth and nail with the Volunteers to see who could continue to build momentum in the SEC. Florida was down 24-7 in the fourth quarter, but managed to claw their way back into the game thanks to some big time plays by true freshmen quarterback DJ Lagway and a massive interception return for a touchdown by cornerback Cormani McClain to tie the game up with just over 2 minutes to go. Unfortunately for the Gators the Volunteers answered the bell when it mattered most, marching their way down the field and converting a long field goal with seconds to go to walk away with the win. "This one stings for sure," said coach McDonagh at the post-game press conference. "We were outplayed and out coached for most of the game, but we still had enough resolve and belief in ourselves to fight back and make it a contest. I tip my cap to the Volunteers, they proved they are for sure a force to be reckoned with in the SEC." With the loss the Gators now return to Gainesville to lick their wounds and hopefully regroup as they prepare for another tough game against conference foe the Kentucky Wildcats.
