Minneapolis, MN – The Minnesota Golden Gophers delivered a statement victory over the Maryland Terrapins, rolling to a dominant 55-26 win behind an explosive rushing performance from Allen D. Taylor and a game-changing defensive showcase by Koi Perich.
Taylor was an unstoppable force in the backfield, torching Maryland’s defense for 245 yards on 20 carries, consistently breaking through tackles and finding daylight. His relentless running set the tone for Minnesota’s offensive dominance, as the Gophers piled up 496 total yards, with a staggering 264 yards on the ground.
On the defensive side, freshman safety Koi Perich turned in a career-defining performance, racking up 8 tackles and an astonishing 3 interceptions, all of which he returned for touchdowns. His instincts and playmaking ability shut down any hopes Maryland had of a comeback, flipping the momentum every time the Terrapins tried to rally.
Maryland started the game strong, taking a 10-7 lead after the first quarter, but Minnesota responded emphatically, exploding for 27 points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. The Gophers’ defense stifled Maryland’s offense, allowing only two third-down conversions the entire game.
Coach Allen’s Postgame Comments:
“That was a complete team effort tonight. Allen [Taylor] ran like a man on a mission, and Koi [Perich] played one of the best defensive games I’ve ever seen. When you have guys making plays like that on both sides of the ball, you’re going to be tough to beat.”
Minnesota improves to (X-X) on the season and will look to carry this momentum into next week’s matchup. Maryland, now (X-X), will need to regroup quickly as they face another tough test ahead.
