Boise, ID - Coach Roc and the Boise St Broncos came in to their annual rivalry game hungry. After losing a heartbreaker to SDSU and briefly losing control of their Conference Championship destiny, new of Fresno State's loss breathed new hope in to the team. With 3 conference games remaining, the Broncos need only to win out to book themselves a ticket to the MWC Championship Game and a rematch with Coach ZZ & the Aztecs who also control their own destiny.
The game could've gone in any direction early on, with both teams exchanging scores to start the game. BSU had a long sustained drive that ended in a short Field Goal. Nevada would respond with a long drive of their own and take a 7-3 lead early in the 2nd quarter. It didn't take long for Ashton Jeanty to break a 75 yard run to but he Broncos back on top. After exchanging field goals to put the game at 13-10, the Wolfpack was driving. They had little trouble moving the ball between the 20s, but Coach Roc's D scheme seemed to be adapting to the Wolfpack passing attack, which culminated in a red zone interception to close the half.
That was all the momentum that the Broncos needed.
After a quick stop by the BSU D, Malachi Nelson, working in as part of Boise's two QB option system was tasked with a rare deep throw which was unfortunately picked off and functioned as an arm punt. However, Safety Seyi Oladipo returned the favor and then some taking a INT to the house on the ensuing drive. Nevada would get the ball back and throw another Pick-6 to stalwart CB Amarion McCoy and the game would only get out of hand from there. After a 3rd stop, the Boise offense was on the field for only 2 plays as Maddux Madsen hit Jeanty on a fantastic 75 yard reception off play-action to put the game well in hand.
Jeanty continues his duel with Clemson's Phil Mafah for the NDL rushing title and finished with 210 yards & 2 TDs on just 16 carries along with 3 receptions for 93 yard and another score. Next up the Broncos hit the road to play the San Jose St Spartans followed by a trip to Laramie for a date with the Cowboys to close out conference play.
