Is this becoming a habit? A 2nd win for the Spartans? Miracles do happen boys and girls.
This one started out slow, with the first two drives by the Spartans offense both going 3 and out, but the defense kept them in the game stalling out a long Illinois drive for a FG and then coming up with a pick at the 1 yard line. From their Chiles led a 99 yard drive and Michigan State would lead the rest of the way. It wasn't a dominate performance by the Spartan offense by any means, but a commitment to the run game paid off with 4 rushing touchdowns as the defense was the star of the show tonight.
With 11 sacks through 9 games, no one has been scared of the MSU pass rush, but tonight DE Khris Bogle was inspired, getting to the QB 3 times by himself as the pass rush brought down Luke Altmyer 8 times in total.
Illinois has now dropped their 4th game in a row making them 5-5 due to the same old story, Defense can’t stop anything, way to many turnovers, and too many sacks have been the recurring theme that has killed a promising Illinois season. Hopefully they can finish strong in their last 2 games but if they don’t, imagine going 5-1 and finishing 5-7.
