Gainesville, Florida - The Florida Gators suffered their 3rd loss of the season tonight, effectively ending their playoff hopes, falling to the LSU Tigers 20-17. This game was a back-and-forth defensive battle as neither team seemed able to get much going. The difference in the game though came down to LSU's ability to establish the running game as freshmen Caden Durham shouldered the Tiger offense, totaling 24 touches for 200 yards (157 rushing, 43 receiving) and both of LSU's touchdowns. Unfortunately for the Gators the Tiger defense played like a team possessed, holding Florida to just 263 yards of offense. LSU took the lead late in the fourth quarter on a tough field goal from Damian Ramos from 42 yards out, but the Gators still had some time left to try to get the ball down the field and into field goal range. DJ Lagway came out looking to hook-up with big play tight end Arlis Boardingham and managed to find him down the sideline in single coverage, but sadly LSU defensive back Ashton Stamps made an amazing play on the ball and hauled in the interception, sealing the Gators fate. "This one really hurts," said coach McDonagh at the post-game press conference. "Our chances to earn a playoff berth are pretty much out the window, but we still have a lot to play for and hopefully we finish out the season strong." With today's loss the Gators now turn their focus to the Rebels of Ole Miss and their final game of the season at "The Swamp".
