Brashard Smith Goes Bonkers

Article By: Block M

DALLAS, TEXAS -- The up and down season for the SMU Mustangs saw a bright spot today as the team improved to 4-5 on the year.

That bright spot was HB Brashard Smith who paced the SMU Mustangs just ahead of the BC Eagles until the defense joined in on the play making and SMU was able to pull away into a comfortable victory.

Smith went for 256 yards rushing on 22 carries and crossed the goal line three times. Smith's highlight of the day came with SMU ahead 21-14 in the waning seconds of the second quarter. As everyone in the stadium with the exception of Smith expected to be headed to half time but Smith took a carry right up the gut untouched for 71 yards and a 28-14 SMU advantage.

In the second half the SMU defense started to tee off on the BC Eagles as defensive ends Jahfari Harvey and Elijah Roberts each recorded two sacks of Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos.

By the end of the game, the SMU defense also had two interceptions (one by Cale Sanders Jr and one by Brandon Crossley) to pair with a fumble recovery and return by LB Kobe Wilson.

SMU now looks to the final block of the season to earn bowl eligibility as they travel to Charlottesville, Virginia and host the California Golden Bears in Dallas. SMU needs wins in both to salvage a down year and build momentum heading into NDL S32.
