The Runnin Rebels turned the ball over five times, becoming a circus show for QB Cameron Friels. His throws are indecisive, and he either overthrows or underthrows his receivers, and it is not entirely his fault. However, since the switch from QB Matthew Sluka, who left the school due to NIL issues, it has been a disastrous season for the quarterback position. Head Coach Black Rain told Friels to get his throws more accurate and not to underthrow the wide receivers, but the four interceptions left Head Coach Black Rain to wonder what he can do to improve the quarterback position, and another change has to be made. Head Coach Black Rain noticed that his team's games have not been close since the change of quarterbacks, and the team is not improving. Nothing to take away from his opponent(s), good game, and Head Coach Black Rain is wondering how to approach the turnovers, less throws? Switch to the third string quarterback, Fernandez? It is difficult, and Head Coach Black Rain does not have an answer. It has been the worst football season of Head Coach Black Rains career, and possibly getting fired may be the result. Good game BigZ!
Aztecs Complete Undefeated Mountain West Season, Dominate UNLV 41-14
The San Diego State Aztecs capped off a perfect Mountain West regular season with a statement victory, defeating the UNLV Rebels 41-14. With an explosive start on offense and a suffocating defensive effort, the Aztecs cemented their dominance heading into the conference championship game.
O’Neil and Poke Spark Fast Start
San Diego State wasted no time asserting control, as quarterback Danny O’Neil connected with receiver Ja’Shaun Poke for several big plays to stretch the UNLV defense. Those early passing strikes helped the Aztecs jump to a quick lead, putting the Rebels on their heels from the opening quarter.
Ground Game Takes Over
Once the lead was established, the Aztecs leaned on their dynamic rushing attack to sustain and extend their advantage. Running back Marquez Cooper led the charge with 126 yards on 20 carries, while Kenan Christon added 46 yards on just eight carries. Their combined effort kept the clock running and the Rebels’ defense gasping for answers.
Defense Smothers Rebels
San Diego State’s defense was relentless, making life miserable for UNLV’s offense. Defensive end Marlem Louis was a force in the trenches, racking up six tackles, including five for loss and a sack. Meanwhile, defensive back Dalesean Staley was a nightmare for the Rebels' passing game, hauling in three interceptions to shut down any comeback hopes.
Aztecs Eye Back-to-Back Titles
With the victory, San Diego State completed a flawless Mountain West regular season and now sets its sights on Boise State in the conference title game. A win would give the Aztecs back-to-back championships, further solidifying their status as the premier team in the Mountain West.
Can the Aztecs finish the job and claim another championship? The stage is set for a thrilling showdown.
