Blacksburg, Virginia - The Florida Gators picked-up yet another massive early season win today, defeating the Hokes of Virginia Tech 21-7. After last week's game fans were eager to see if the Gator offense would show some type of improvement and the Gators did not disappoint, totaling 321 yards against a stout Hokie defense. Quarterback DJ Lagway was near perfect orchestrating the Florida offense, finishing the day 11/12 passing for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns to electric wide receiver Eugene Wilson III. Lagway also displayed some of his running ability, shrugging off a sack attempt late in the 4th quarter and scrambling for 23 yards to set up the Gators 3rd and final touchdown and put the game out of reach for the Hokies. As far as the defense goes the Gators showed that last week's performance against Miami was no fluke, limiting Virginia Tech to just 179 yards of offense while forcing 3 turnovers (2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery). "We knew this crowd would be rocking and they did not disappoint," said coach McDonagh at the post-game press conference. "It gave us a little taste of what to expect when we hit the road in conference play. I'm just proud of how our guys handled themselves in a hostile environment and to see our offense and defense improve from week one. We just need to continue to grow each week." With the win the Gators now turn their attention to conference play as they return to Gainesville to take on the Aggies of Texas A&M in an early season clash between two teams looking to make some noise in the cut-throat SEC.
