Mississippi St. Celebrates Week 1 Win vs Houston Cougars

Clash between two coaches that span many seasons Coach Doc set out the red carpet for Coach Rags and the Cougars in Starksville. The game wouldn't disappoint these 2 coaches know each other all to well and it showed. Coach Doc looking to get some revenge after Houston drug his Virginia team through the mud last season.

In the 1st it was all Miss St. Blake Sharpen found Jordan Mosley down the right sideline wide open for an 80yd catch and run. Kyle Ferrie topped the quarter off with a 41yd FG 10-0 Miss St.

In the 2nd the flood gates open for both teams and it was a scoring fest. Sharpen found Traore over the middle for 16yd score. Houston rattled off 3 straight touchdowns. Donovan Smith found Joseph Manjack for 60yds and Marquis Shoulders for 5yd TDs. Miss ST would manage to Latrell McCutching from Houston for the INT return for a TD. Houston now has the lead 21-17 but it wasn't over. Miss St answered with 2 score of their own Creed Whitemore down the seam for 82yds and Davon Booth pushed it in from the 1. On the kick off Parker Jennings says, Hold my beer and takes it 101yds for the score. Miss St. had 1:05 to get points on the board and they did with a 17yd FG by Kyle Ferrie. Halftime Miss ST leads 34-10

IN the 3rd both teams traded touchdowns with Miss St. getting on the board 1st with Booth's 7yd TD run. Houston would answer with a Jenkins 5yd score. In the 4th the Cougs hung around threating Miss St until the end. McCutchin returned another errant pass from Shapen to the house. Kyle Ferrie would answer putting the Bulldogs up by 1. Houston would get the ball back and drive right down the field but the Bulldogs would get another pick. Houston made two great stops to bring up 3rd down. That's when Sharpen found Kevin Coleman alone down the left side for a 69yd TD to seal the game for the Bulldogs.

Great game Gary. Fun as always looking forward to more practice time and my beat down in Houston next season.
