A&M Handles Business Against Temple, But the Real Season Begins Now

by Debbie Downer - College Station, TX

Texas A&M wrapped up its out-of-conference schedule with a predictable, ho-hum 28-7 victory over Temple, improving to 6-2 on the year and 3-1 in SEC play. No surprises here—the Aggies knew they were the better team, and it showed in the most boring way possible.

The game plan? Run the ball. Drain the clock. Get out with a win. And that’s exactly what they did.

A&M ran the ball a staggering 45 times, controlling the game with slow, methodical drives that drained the clock and doubled up Temple in total plays. Rueben Owens once again carried the offense, racking up 27 carries for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Marcel Reed barely broke a sweat, throwing just 11 passes, completing 9 for 130 yards, and adding 10 carries for 20 yards and 2 rushing scores.

And, well, that was pretty much the entire game.

Temple’s offense never stood a chance, managing just 139 total yards and 10 first downs. The Aggie defense was solid, but it didn’t have to be great, as the Owls were outmatched at every level. Texas A&M racked up 3 sacks and 2 interceptions, but let’s be honest—this wasn’t a test, it was a scrimmage.

So, congrats to the Aggies for handling business. But now, it’s time to find out what this team is really made of.

LSU. South Carolina. Auburn. Texas.

Four games. Four teams that can punch A&M in the mouth. Three of them are ranked. The Aggies have looked fine against teams like Temple, but let’s not pretend this means anything. Beating a team you’re supposed to beat doesn’t prove you’re a contender.

Every one of those remaining games could be a loss. And if A&M plays the way they did against actual competition this year, they probably will be.

Enjoy the easy wins while they last, Aggie fans. Reality is knocking.
