NDL: S31W4 - Pittsburgh (28) at Colorado State (33)

Touchdown making the game close.

Rams tame the Panthers

Article By: footballkelly31

Colorado St. was talking alot of smack leading up to this game. Pitt was looking to make them back it up.
Pitt got the opening drive and shut the crowd up quick with 3 plays all for first downs. A corner blitz off the edge pushed the panthers out of the red zone and rattled Holstein a little as his next pass was picked off at the goal line by Larry and taken to the Pitt 40.
The Rams would take the momentum and run it in from 14 yards out after just four plays to go up 7-0.
Pitt would convert two first downs and get across mid field but a poor through from Holstein would be dropped and they would have to punt.
CSU would end the quarter marching into the Panthers territory.
2nd Qtr:
CSU would punch it in from a yard out to go up 14-0.
Pitt would need to slow down and did just that by eating up nearly 4 minutes of the clock. Converting four first downs and finally getting a nice ball on the out route for a score to make it 14-7.
The Rams would connect on a nice go route for 48 to get to the Panthers side fo the field. They would be stuffed at the 2 where Pitt would call a time out. CSU took the 3 points and made it 17-7 with :51 seconds left in the half.
Pitt would score on the first play as a stop route would result in the corner trying to undercut it and Johnson would go 75 yards untouched to make it 17-14.
CSU had plenty of time and all their time outs. They would drive to the Pitt 36 but would get picked off at the 10 to send it to half.
3rd qtr:
CSU would score on the third play after lining up heavy and hitting the crossing route to the tight end who would go 47 yards to the endzone. 24-14.
Pitt would go three and out and all the momentum was back with the Rams.
The Rams would convert a few first downs and get to the Pitt 25 where they would have to settle for a field goal. 27-14
After the big stop, the Pitt offense knew they had to score to keep them in the game. They would eat up over 4 minutes.
4th qtr:
Pitt would finish off the 4 minute drive with a 2 yard TD. They would elect to take the extra point instead of going for two making it a 27-21 game with just over 6:30 left.
CSU would have a perfect play call getting the team going one way and striking in the other direction however the very next play from mid field was an ill advised pitch out of a juke by Marrow which resulted in a 20 yard loss. The Pitt D would crap the bed and give up a 13 yard pass than a 26 yarder (over two defenders in cement boots and let the Rams get the first down. The D would get redeemed as they get a strip sack on a screen pass giving them the ball at their own 45 with just over 4 minutes left.
Pitt would work the ground game and convert on a big 4th and 1 inside the redzone. THey would score three plays later from the 4. 28-27.
CSU would get the ball with 1:26 and no timeouts, needing just a field goal to win. The Rams would face a 3rd and 1 with the clock ticking down when Morrow would break off a 12 yard run and get out at the Panther 34. THe Pitt D would sell out on the run the next play hoping to force a long 50+ yarder but the Rams had other plans. They would line up heavy and hit a streaking Winfield for the score. A failed 2 pt conversion left the game at 33-28 with 30 seconds left.
Pitt would get a 14 yard QB scamper, than a 6 yard dig getting out of bounds than an 11 yard play over the middle to get to the Rams 44 with 19 seconds and one time out. Holstein would drop back but his right guard would just fall down and the DT would run right over him to get a sack and force Pitt to burn their last TO. Holstein would sling one up the sideline but it was knocked out of the wideouts hands and the last play would be a hailmary picked off at the goal line sealing the win for the Rams.

Great Game Todd, two below average users playing an entertaining game. Best of luck the rest of the way and look forward to more like these.

Rams came out strong

Pitt & CSU in Instant Classic

Article By: TSTEPANEK

After the Rams got beatdown by rival Colorado they needed something good to happen. With a stout Pitt team coming to town the task seemed daunting. What transpired was one for the NDL historical archives.

CSU jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead but the Panthers were not about to retract their claws. Instead they cut the lead to 17-14 at half and had an impressive goal line stand to force a Ram FG. The Rams were able to extend the lead in the third but again Pitt would not go away.

The Rams seemigly lost the game with the Panthers taking a late lead. The Rams O surged ahead but it would be the D that held strong getting a huge sack then picking off a pass on the games final play. It was a battle throughout this one and Coach TStep commented "Pitt came i and brought a strong overall game - when they got the late lead it was going to be our "oh crap" or "we'll see what we're made of moment."

Great game FBK - has been fun playing you
