Michigan State dominated UMass in their college football matchup, ultimately winning with a score of 42-10. The game started with a scoring exchange in the first quarter. UMass struck first with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Taisun Phommachanh to Sterling Galban, followed by a successful extra point. Michigan State quickly responded with two passing touchdowns from Aidan Chiles, first to Jaron Glover for 37 yards and then to Nick Marsh for 54 yards, with both extra points converted. The Spartans continued to build their lead in the second quarter with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Chiles to Michael Masunas and a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown by Nikai Martinez. UMass managed to score a field goal from Jacob Lurie, a 24-yard kick, before the end of the half. In the third quarter, Michigan State extended their lead with a 78-yard touchdown pass from Chiles to Jaron Glover. The fourth quarter saw Chiles himself adding to the score with a 72-yard rushing touchdown, completing Michigan State's 42-10 victory.
Through 8 games the Spartans have seen many things. Fast starts and fading, seeming taking entire quarters off from playing any offense, playing close battles, playing a close battle and imploding in the final minute, and in general most ways you can think of to lose a game.
QB Aidan Chiles had finally seen enough, and while it won't erase any of the shame from this season, at least going 0-12 is off the table now. After Umass took an early 7 point lead Chiles took over. Outside one late throw for a pick he was near the perfect, racking up 376 total yards of offense and 5 touchdowns. Big plays were the order of the day with touchdowns that covered 31, 37, 54, 60, 72, and 78 yards.
Now can we dare dream for a 2nd win?
