Devils Dominate in Opener

If you only looked at the stats and not the scoreboard, this game would appear to be a blowout where Tulane would be the champion. However that is not what happened. The Blue Devils Dominate in home opener against Tulane. Although the Duke offense appeared to struggle in the first quarter, punting and fumbling on their first two miles to give Tulane a 7-0 lead with the ball going into the second quarter. The momentum in the game shifted when Tulane kicker Jacob Barnes inexplicably missed a field goal on a tough angle less than 30 yards away that would've put Tulane up 10-0. The Blue Devil Offense then came alive and scored three touchdowns in the second quarter. The Duke defense also played a huge role picking off Tulane four times throughout the game, including one by Linebacker, Nick Morris Jr. that he took back for a touchdown. Although coach was very happy with how his team performed, he was disappointed in how they finished, giving up two garbage time touchdowns in the fourth quarter. "Tulane is a talented team, and sammy is a talented coach, but we were able to get the job done today and begin the season with a crucial non conference home win."
