Fightin' Tiger Defense Dominate Duke

Article By: bucknut333

LSU hosted the Duke Blue Devils this past Saturday in Death Valley hoping to continue on their path to the CFP. Duke rolled in and started out the game HOT with a Pick 6 on the first drive of the game. The ever reliable QB Nussmeier was visibly frustrated at the early INT and led a quick 7 play 80 yd TD drive capped by star RB Durham rushing it in. Duke responded with a similar TD drive of their own showing that they had no intention of backing down against the loud Tiger faithful. That fight from the Blue Devils continued on the very next play as the now shaky Nussmeier threw it directly to a Duke LB, ultimately resulting in another TD - Score 21-7 Blue Devils with 1 minute left in the 1st quarter.

With the Tigers in an unusual spot at home and their back against the wall, the offense had to turn it up a notch. Nussmeier found his form and threw an absolute bomb to WR Anderson for a 68 yd TD. The Fightin' Tiger defense then came alive as their bend-don't-break style allowed them to force a fumble in the red zone and allow the offense to drive it down for another TD tying the game up at 21. On the next Duke drive, FS Gilbert expertly jumped a RPO for a Pick 6 to go up 28-21 and the Tigers did not look back. The LSU defense was a brick wall the rest of the game forcing a total of 6 INTs and 1 FR as All-American LB Perkins Jr was the star of the show with 9 TKL, 4 INTs, and 1 TD.

52-28 Final for the Tigers.
