Orange Overwhelmed Out West: Syracuse Falls to Stanford, 37–10
By Scoop Orange

PALO ALTO, CA — A long trip, a short week, and a long list of problems.

Syracuse football’s rough start to the season continued Saturday as the Orange traveled across the country and were soundly beaten by Stanford, 37–10. The defeat drops Syracuse to 0–4, and Head Coach Mark Berokoff is starting to feel the heat.

“Stanford kicked our tail all over the place,” Berokoff said postgame. “But come on, this travel stinks. Makes zero sense we have to travel to California to play these games. The California weather is amazing, but our fellas are not used to that — we play in a dome, come on ACC.”

The Orange never really looked settled after a cross-country trip that seemed to throw the team off its rhythm from the start. Syracuse struggled to get anything going offensively and were consistently outmatched in the trenches. Stanford dictated the pace on both sides of the ball and never let up.

Once again, tight end Oronde Gadsden was one of the few bright spots. The star playmaker finished with 5 catches for 93 yards, continuing to show why he’s one of the best pass-catchers in the nation — regardless of position.

On defense, Marlowe Wax and Duce Chestnut showed fight in the face of a relentless Cardinal attack. The duo combined for 22 tackles and a sack, refusing to back down even as the scoreboard told a different story.

But beyond the stats, it was clear that frustration is starting to build in Syracuse’s locker room — and in Coach Berokoff’s voice.

“I’m starting to wonder if the fans will still love me after this slow start,” he said with a wry smile. “I get it. We’re 0–4. That’s not what Syracuse football is about. But we’re gonna keep working.”

The Orange are staring at a tough stretch ahead, and questions are beginning to swirl. Can they right the ship? Will the fans stay patient? Is the season salvageable?

The answers remain unclear — but one thing is certain: the Orange are running out of time to turn things around.
