Pullman, WA – Martin Stadium

The #12 Washington State Cougars continued their undefeated run with a dominant 41-14 win over the Boise State Broncos on Saturday in Pullman. The Cougars improved to 7-0 on the season, using explosive plays, efficient offense, and a game-changing special teams moment to take firm control before halftime.

The Cougars struck early with a 45-yard touchdown scamper by running back Nate Parker midway through the first quarter. In the second, quarterback John Mateer extended the lead with an 11-yard touchdown strike to tight end Gavin Maxwell, giving WSU a 14-0 advantage. Boise State showed signs of life late in the half, as quarterback CJ Madsen connected with George Jeanty on a 7-yard score with under a minute remaining.

However, the momentum shifted instantly when Cougar return man Tyrell Freeman took the ensuing kickoff 103 yards to the house, swinging momentum back to Washington State just 13 seconds later. Kicker Ryan Janikowski capped the half with a 35-yard field goal as time expired, putting the Cougars up 24-7 at the break.

Washington State controlled the second half with a mix of field goals and explosive plays. Janikowski nailed two more kicks from 45 and 19 yards, while Mateer connected with wide receiver Marcus Shackelford for a 53-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Boise State's lone second-half highlight came from defensive lineman Amir Hassanein, who returned a fumble 48 yards for a touchdown.

Defensively, the Cougars stifled Boise State all night, holding them to just 224 total yards and bottling up star running back George Jeanty, who was limited to 77 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, Mateer led a balanced and potent Cougar attack, racking up over 345 yards of total offense and two touchdowns. Washington State’s offense rolled up 561 total yards, showcasing their firepower and efficiency.

The Cougars will look to keep their perfect season alive next week as they continue their push toward a potential playoff berth.
