Yellow Jackets Outlast Blue Devils

Article By: NarcanMan

Georgia Tech rode a strong first-half performance and a dominant time-of-possession edge to defeat Duke 30–20 in a game where the Yellow Jackets controlled the tempo and the scoreboard when it mattered most.

Both teams traded blows early, each scoring 7 points in the first quarter and 13 in the second, heading into halftime tied at 20. But after the break, the Blue Devils' offense stalled, managing zero points in the final two quarters. Georgia Tech, meanwhile, added a field goal in the third and sealed the game with a late touchdown in the fourth.

The Yellow Jackets' balanced offensive attack produced 363 total yards—152 on the ground and 211 through the air—while converting seven of ten third-down attempts to sustain drives. They also dominated time of possession, holding the ball for nearly 19 minutes, keeping the Duke defense on the field and wearing them down.

Duke matched Georgia Tech in the first half but failed to regain momentum after halftime. Their 312 total yards were fairly even between passing (205) and rushing (107), but two second-half interceptions proved costly and halted potential scoring opportunities.

Special teams gave the Yellow Jackets a slight edge with 46 return yards compared to Duke’s 10, and both teams played a clean game with no penalties.

Georgia Tech also capitalized in the red zone, converting both trips into points with a pair of touchdowns and two field goals. Duke, by contrast, managed only one touchdown on two red zone opportunities.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets continue to show consistency in all three phases, while the Blue Devils will look to bounce back after a promising start turned into a second-half shutout.
