Army Struggles to Find Offense in Shutou

Article By: ICE

The Army Black Knights were held scoreless and shut out on the road, falling 27-0 to East Carolina in a tough Week 8 matchup.

Army’s offense was completely stifled, unable to generate momentum either on the ground or through the air. Quarterback Bryson Daily was 0-for-8 passing, throwing two interceptions and finishing with a quarterback rating of -50.0. The rushing attack was equally ineffective, managing just 20 yards on 15 carries for a meager 1.3 yards per rush. Tyrell Robinson led the ground game with 15 yards on 4 carries, while Miles Stewart chipped in 8 yards. Daily himself lost yardage, rushing for -3 yards on 9 attempts.

The receiving corps was shut out, with no catches recorded. Noah Short was targeted but dropped one pass.

On the defensive side, Army was active with 65 total tackles and 6 tackles for loss but could not slow down East Carolina’s offense enough to prevent scoring. Max DiDomenico and Kalib Fortner each snagged interceptions to spark the defense, with Fortner also breaking up a pass.

East Carolina’s offense was led by quarterback Katin Houser, who completed 25 of 39 passes for 290 yards and 3 touchdowns, despite two interceptions. Their rushing game was modest but effective enough to complement the passing attack, gaining 89 yards on 26 carries.

Receivers Winston Wright Jr. and Chase Sowell both had strong games, combining for two touchdowns and over 160 yards receiving.

Special teams were a mixed bag, with East Carolina’s Andrew Conrad going 2-for-4 on field goals but making all three extra points, while Army’s punter James Wagenseller had a decent showing with 4 punts for 196 yards.

Army will look to regroup and find answers on offense as they head into Week 9, needing to rebound from this shutout loss.
