South Florida Wins big in Birmingham

Article By: Jokers78

The South Florida Bulls continued their magical season on Saturday, marching into Protective Stadium and leaving with a convincing win over the UAB Blazers to remain undefeated. Behind a nearly flawless performance from junior quarterback Byrum Brown and another defensive masterclass by senior linebacker Jhalyn Shuler, the Bulls silenced the home crowd and solidified their position as one of the top teams in the American Athletic Conference.

Brown was electric from start to finish, completing an eye-popping 21 of 24 passes for 367 yards. He threw two touchdowns through the air and added another on the ground, carving up the UAB defense with surgical precision. Brown’s poise, accuracy, and leadership were on full display, as he kept the Bulls in control throughout the game.

“Byrum played lights out,” said head coach Larry Bell. “He’s calm, confident, and makes everyone around him better. That’s what great quarterbacks do.”

But the Bulls weren’t just about offense. On the defensive side, Jhalyn Shuler continued his campaign for conference defensive player of the year. The senior linebacker racked up seven tackles, one sack, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble which he recovered and returned, setting up a short field for the Bulls' offense. His impact was felt on every level of the field, disrupting UAB’s rhythm and energizing the defense with his relentless motor.

“Jhalyn’s been a warrior all season,” Bell said. “He sets the tone, and the rest of the guys feed off that.”

With the win, South Florida improves to a perfect record and sets its sights on a brutal two-game homestand. Next up are two of the toughest matchups on their schedule: Tulane, a perennial conference powerhouse, followed by a surging Florida Atlantic squad. Both games will be played at Raymond James Stadium, where Bulls fans are expected to pack the stands and create a hostile environment for visiting teams.

Coach Bell is keeping his team focused, knowing the toughest tests still lie ahead.

“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but we haven’t done anything yet,” Bell said. “Tulane and FAU are coming in hungry. We’ll need to be at our absolute best.”

If Saturday’s performance is any indication, the Bulls are more than ready.
