(Charlotte, NC) - The 49ers completely dominated the Navy Midshipmen in this mid week conference battle as they sunk Navy to the tune of a 31 - 0 shutout in Week 8. Navy’s heavy triple option ground game was well scouted in the film room and was snuffed out all game long.
The Charlotte offense was powered by QB Max Brown who completed 21/35 attempts while throwing for 246 yards. Brown threw for 2 TDs and 1 INT. WR Duane Thomas caught both TD throws and finished the day with 6 catches for 54 yards.
Navy’s Junior RB Eli Heidenreich rushed for 24 attempts but only amassed 41 yards through 4 quarters. Navy’s QB made only two pass attempts on the day. One incomplete pass, the other picked off for a 5 yard return from CLT LB #10 Ostiadinma Ekwondu.
After winning their third straight AAC matchup the question is raised can the 49ers be a possible dark horse to make the AAC title game? With three ranked teams already sitting a top the conference only time will tell.
The Charlotte 49ers look to continue their AAC dominance next week as they host the Memphis Tigers in front of the Charlotte faithful at Jerry Richardson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm EST.
