The Owls were tested from a very good team yet again, this time falling behind by 28 points early on in the ball game against a good UTSA user. However, FAU yet again showed their heart of a champion as they battled back another 20+ point come from behind victory to keep their dream season alive. QB Cam Fancher was razor sharp after throwing 2 early picks he dialed in for over 400 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. HB CJ Campbell rushed for over 120 yards as he now has rushed for this mark in every game this season. Defensively FAU was able to stand tall in the clutch moments when it mattered including a key fourth down stop late. Lots to improve on including the need to start faster as we gear up for the end of the season.
The Roadrunners are living up to their mascot. Start fast, but the tiny bird just doesn't have the endurance.
For the second game in a row, we come out as a force to be reckoned with, this week, facing undefeated FAU. On the second play of the game, HB Robert Henry breaks free for an 81 yard TD run to set the tone. The inspired defense takes the field, forcing an INT by DB Zach Frazier and handing the ball back to the offense. This time, the electric freshman who exploded on to the map last week, Brandon High, takes a wheel route 58 yards for a TD and a 14-0 lead.
The defense once again shuts down the high flying Owl offense, but this time it's Mekhi Anderson taking the punt 82 yards right through the FAU punt team for his 2nd return TD for the season.
The electric freshman wasn't done for the day, adding a 73 yard receiving TD in the 3rd quarter. The speedster is quickly making a name for himself among the UTSA fanbase.
Sadly, despite a commanding 28-0 lead, the Roadrunners couldn't hold the explosive Owls forever, and they finally found their rhythm. A redzone RPO resulted in an INT for the Owls and the UTSA offensive line struggled with the Owl pass rush all game. While McCown only took 1 sack, he was rushed and flustered most of the 2nd half.
Standing currently at 1-2 (1-1), there are mixed feelings in the UTSA locker room. Commanding leads vs two teams with a combined 2 losses instills confidence... but both games resulting in losses leaves the players doubting if coach Mort can win games when it matters.
