(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte 49ers Improve to 3-0 in ACC play on their quest to serve as the Conference's party crashers to the big three AAC hopefuls this season.
At the helm of the Charlotte Offense QB #1 Max Brown threw the ball with incredible precision, poise, and power. Brown was 15/19 through the air and threw for 261 yards. He threw for 1 TD and 0 INTs. His longest throw went to WR #8 Sean Brown for 57 yards. The ground game found holes all night long as RB #0 Terron Kellman rushed for 90 yards on 18 touches. He also recorded 2 TDs.
The standout performance once again came from the Charlotte Defense who has shined all season long. Charlotte was able to win the turnover battle by a margin of 3:1 against Memphis. QB Seth Henigan threw two interceptions on the day. Once picked off for a 90 yard Pick-6 by CB Elijah Culp, and the other a 35-yard Pick-6 from CB Dontae Balfour. Two pick-6 interceptions from the Charlotte defense allowed them to build a multi-possession lead at the end of the 3rd quarter and keep it for the remainder of the game.
The most impressive play of the game came following the final two minute timeout when Memphis had Charlotte on the ropes. Only down 3 points Memphis needed a field goal to tie or a TD to take the lead. On 4th & 8th on their own 46 yard line the Memphis QB found WR Koby Drake for a gain of 15. But after the completion that would have given Memphis a 1st down inside the Charlotte 40 yard line, the ball was punched out by S Maguire Neal for a fumble. After the ensuing dogpile and tedious review, CB Elijah Culp came up with the loose ball. After an 8-yard run from RB Terron Kellman and an ensuing 16 yard QB option from Max Brown, the 49ers could kneel out the remaining clock and hold on for their 3rd straight conference win of S32.
At the conclusion of Block 4, the AAC have 5 undefeated teams in conference play. Three of those five are ranked nationally. #21 South Florida, #23 Tulane, and #25 FAU are all looking to fight their way into the CFP this winter. Can the Charlotte 49ers force an upset and run the conference? These last remaining weeks of AAC play regardless of the 49ers involvement are definitely games to watch as the season wraps up.
Next week the Charlotte 49ers face their biggest AAC opponent yet as they travel south to The Big Easy to take on ranked #23 Tulane. This matchup will have serious AAC Championship implications for BOTH teams. A definite game to watch. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm EST.
