Article By: Big_red1300

In a stunning display of power and precision, the Iowa Hawkeyes dismantled previously undefeated Northwestern with a commanding 38-8 victory on Saturday. The win not only hands the Wildcats their first loss of the season but firmly reasserts Iowa as a top contender in the Big Ten.

Iowa came out aggressive from the opening kickoff, establishing dominance on both sides of the ball. Running back Kaleb Johnson added another dimension with 187 rushing yards and 4 scores, keeping Northwestern’s defense on its heels.

The Hawkeyes' defense, ranked among the best in the country, lived up to its billing. Northwestern, who entered the game averaging over 30 points per contest, was held scoreless until late in the 3rd quarter. Iowa’s front seven controlled the line of scrimmage, racking up four sacks and forcing 4 turnovers, including a pick-six.

By halftime, Iowa had built a commanding 24-0 lead, capitalizing on short fields and defensive stops. The second half was no different, as the Hawkeyes added two more touchdowns while continuing to suffocate the Wildcats’ offense.

Northwestern's lone touchdown came with just under five minutes left in the game, long after Iowa had rotated in its second-string defense.

“We were focused, physical, and played the way we expect to,” said Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz. “That’s a good team we beat, but our guys were ready.”

With the win, Iowa improves to 4-3 on the season and 3-0 in Big Ten play, putting them firmly in the race for the conference title. Northwestern drops to 6-1, suffering a wake-up call after a dream start.

The Hawkeyes will look to maintain their momentum next week against Michigan State, while Northwestern will try to regroup at home against Illinois.
