“As Cool as the Other Side of the Pillow” – Tulsa Lights Up UAB in a Big-Time Blowout

TULSA, Okla. – Boo-yah! If you blinked, you missed it. The Tulsa Golden Hurricane came out cookin’ with gas and never took their foot off the pedal, rolling past the UAB Blazers in a 49–17 smackdown that had fans in Oklahoma shoutin’ “That’s how we do it!”

Let’s break it down… Stuart Scott-style.

First Quarter: Golden Hurricane Starts with Thunder

From the jump, Tulsa looked like they had something to prove. Opening possession? Smooth like jazz. Seven plays later, Cooper Legas finds Alex Green in the back corner of the end zone—boom, 24 yards, and it’s 7-0, Tulsa.

Then the Blazers blinked—and boom again. Tulsa snatched a pick and said “thank you very much.” One play later, Braylon Presley says, “I’ll take that!” on an 80-yard bomb from Legas. Presley ran past that secondary like he was late for dinner. It’s 14-0 before UAB even knew what hit ‘em.

UAB tried to bounce back but found more heartbreak when Gavin Porter said, "Not today!"—taking an interception 52 yards down to the two. Legas to Presley again, easy money from 2 yards out. That’s 21-0, and the Tulsa fans were feelin’ it like a fried bologna sandwich on white bread with mustard.

UAB got their legs under ‘em, grinding on the ground and making it to the Tulsa 21, but their kicker shook a 38-yard field goal wide like a cowboy missing a steer at the rodeo. But Tulsa gave it right back. Adrian Maddox jumped a slant like he read the play in the locker room, taking it 9 yards on the return. UAB finally got on the board with a 34-yard field goal—baby steps, but it’s 21-3.

No worries for Tulsa. On the next drive, Cooper Legas said, “Let’s go deep!” and hit Braylon Presley for a sizzling 79-yard touchdown—that’s Legas’ third TD of the first quarter. UAB answered with a quick 3-play drive ending in a 67-yard strike to Cory Milliner. After one? It’s 28-10, Tulsa.

Second Quarter: All Tulsa, All the Time

Midway through the second, Cooper Legas kept it himself—tucked it, ran it, finished it. Seven-yard keeper for the TD. That’s TD No. 4 for the man under center.

Then Tulsa’s Chris Thompson played the spoiler, picking off Jacob Zeno and setting the Golden Hurricane up at the UAB 39. Four plays later, it’s Legas to Camden Benjamin for a 16-yard TD. That's now five touchdowns for Legas before halftime. 35-10 and the Golden Hurricane is rippin’ and roarin’.

UAB clawed one back with a 5-yard rumble into the end zone by Lee Beebe, but Tulsa wasn’t done. With time winding down, Legas drops a dime to Joseph Williams—38 yards, picture-perfect. Four passing TDs for Legas in the half. It’s a party in Tulsa, and the score reads 42–17 at the break.

Third Quarter: Defense Dials It Up

Tulsa’s defense came out like they had barbecue to get to—two interceptions in the quarter, making life miserable for Zeno and company. Then Cooper Legas capped off the drive with his second rushing TD of the day, a hard-earned two-yard plunge that made it six total touchdowns for the Tulsa QB.

UAB leaned into the run game late, but by then, it was all she wrote.

Final Score: Tulsa 49, UAB 17

Cooper Legas? Straight ballin’, y’all. The man accounted for six total touchdowns—four in the air, two on the ground. Braylon Presley? Dude was dancing through the defense like he had Fred Astaire in his DNA.

Tulsa improves their record, and with the way they played, you'd swear they were chasing a conference title. As for UAB? Back to the drawing board.

And as always…

“You ain’t gotta go home, but you gotta get the heck up outta here.”
