Article By: Lsumavsman

Jacksonville State outlasted La Tech 52-49 in a wild, high-scoring game defined by momentum swings each quarter.

La Tech got off slow, scoring zero points in the first quarter while Jax State jumped ahead with 14. The second quarter exploded as Jacksonville State put up 21 points, outscoring La Tech’s 32 but maintaining a lead going into halftime.

La Tech made a run in the third quarter, scoring 3 points to Jacksonville State’s 7, cutting the gap. The fourth quarter was a nail-biter, with Jacksonville State pulling away scoring 10 points to La Tech’s 14. Despite La Tech’s late charge, it wasn’t enough to close the final three-point margin.

This back-and-forth battle featured explosive offenses: La Tech outgained Jax State 680 to 543 total yards, but turnovers and poor third-down efficiency (2-for-11) cost them. Jax State quarterback Tyler Huff threw for 367 yards and four touchdowns but was picked off three times. Their running game, led by Tre Stewert’s 91 yards and two scores, complemented a highly efficient offense that converted 4-of-6 third downs and capitalized with five red zone touchdowns.

Defensively, both teams forced multiple turnovers, but Jacksonville State’s timely stops in critical moments and better red zone execution made the difference.

In the end, Jacksonville State’s consistent scoring through three quarters and a clutch finish in the fourth gave them the edge in a thrilling 52-49 win.
