Head Coach Black Rain and his Runnin Rebels win the Island Showdown Trophy and matchup against Head Coach Jeffdaddy and his mighty Hawaii Warriors. The Rebels knew going into this matchup, they would be going against Hawaii QB Braden Schager and his offensive passing attack. Schager is one of the top quarterbacks in college football this season.
This time, Head Coach Black Rain brought out the best of his defense, and challenged the defensive line as well as the linebackers and secondary to Do Their Jobs! If you do your jobs, sometimes the ball will bounce in your favor, and with help from the offense, timed runs by RB Jai Den Thomas, and star receiver Ricky White helped moved the chains on key passes and runs, and the Warriors actually slowed down the Rebels rushing attack. Offensive Line lanes and gaps were quickly closed up, not much success on runs for Thomas, but three key runs that broke for first downs padded those rushing statistics.
As for the passing game, it was a nice sight to see QB Cameron Friel throw with confidence and accuracy, first time this season, and it was surprising, as last season he struggled mightily, and this season was becoming the same story, pass, pass, interception, this season, pass, pass, interceptions are down. Key passes to White helped the Runnin Rebels move the chains and keep the Warriors offense off the field. Hopefully Friel can capitalize the rest of the season, as the passing game was not needed in this one, and continue to improve. Friel completed just 8 for 9 for 144 yards, but that was all he needed to get the first downs with his defense playing a tremendous game.. Head Coach Black Rain was proud of his team, even though the interception proved costly, but the resilience of the team showed, and hopefully the momentum continues with the offense and defense improving the rest of the season.
Good Luck rest of the Season, Head Coach, Jeffdaddy!
