Dropped TD sinks UTSA vs Army

Article By: MortTheCow

Despite getting trounced by Army QB Bryson Daily (181 rushing yards, 3 TDs), the Roadrunners had one final chance to tie the game, but a dropped TD by TE Oscar Cardenas. The Roadrunners never should have even had a chance, following two terrible INTs and allowing the Army offense to repeatedly escape the backfield when the ball carrier was trapped.

Three missed FGs by the Army kicker kept points off the board, extending life to the Roadrunners, but the offense just couldn't muster enough points. A tough loss by the team that felt it was getting ready to make a run at the conference title game, but with 2 losses, that seems all but impossible.

In a tightly contested Week 14 battle, Army eked out a 28-21 victory on the road against UT San Antonio, relying heavily on a dominant rushing attack while managing limited passing production.

Army’s offense leaned on its ground game, rushing for a total of 360 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Bryson Daily led the charge on the ground, carrying the ball 21 times for 181 yards and three touchdowns, including a long 77-yard run. Tyrell Robinson also chipped in with 111 yards and a score on 12 carries, while additional contributions came from Kanye Udoh and Hayden Reed.

Passing was minimal for Army, with Daily completing just 1 of 2 attempts for 3 yards, highlighting the team’s commitment to the run.

On defense, Army recorded 34 tackles with linebacker Casey Larkin leading the way with 6 stops and 2 tackles for loss. Defensive standout Max DiDomenico added an interception and 6 tackles, helping to stymie UTSA’s attempts to rally.

UT San Antonio’s offense was led by quarterback Owen McCown, who threw for 340 yards, 2 touchdowns, but also 2 interceptions on 22 completions from 34 attempts. His top targets included Mekhi Anderson and Brandon High, who combined for 176 receiving yards and a touchdown apiece.

The Roadrunners relied on a modest rushing attack totaling 63 yards but managed to keep the game close with effective passing and timely plays.

Special teams saw Army’s Trey Gronotte successfully convert all four extra point attempts but missed all three field goal tries, keeping the scoreline tight.

Despite the kicking woes, Army’s relentless rushing and opportunistic defense secured the victory, improving their position in the standings and setting up momentum for the remaining season.
