(Fort Collins, CO) - After a vicious back and forth defensive stand from both green teams, the Charlotte 49ers best the Colorado State Rams by a score of 31-13. Throughout the Week 3 matchup both defensive fronts held the opposite offense in check by recording 4 takeaways each after 45 minutes of action.
On defense, MLB Reid Williford, S James Thompkins, and DE Demon Clowney each had 1 Forced Fumble, 2 of which were recovered by the charlotte defense. CB Maquire Neal and CB Al-Ma hi Ali each had leaping interceptions to cut down on CSU largely looming air raid style passing attack. Once again, the charlotte defense kept the 49ers and their costly turnover prone offense in another tightly wound battle.
The CSU defensive backs forced 4 INT from CLT QB #1 Max Brown which lead the team to turn to the run game to drive the game home on the 4th quarter. And drive they did. RB #0 Terron Kellman recorded 135 yards on 19 touches and found the endzone twice in the 4th quarter to cement Charlotte's second straight road win in S32.
In week 5 of NDL action the 49ers look to extend their winning streak to 3 games as they host their first AAC matchup of the season. They open up in conference play at home versus Rice at Jerry Richardson Stadium next saturday. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm EST.
