The Washington State Cougars rolled into Toledo with a point to prove—and they left no doubt. After letting a close one slip away last season, Coach LiQ had this game circled, and his team delivered.
“This was one I was waiting for,” Coach LiQ said. “I felt like last year against Coach Outlaw, we let the game slip away. It was a hard one for the kids to stomach during the offseason.”
From the opening whistle, the Cougars were locked in. They jumped out to a 17-point lead early, setting the tone with a dominant offensive attack. While the Rockets managed to claw back with a touchdown to make it 17-7, every time they found momentum, Washington State answered right back.
Quarterback Mateer was nearly flawless, tossing four touchdowns and orchestrating drives with confidence and control. On the defensive side, Smithson added another interception to his season tally, and the Cougars' defense turned it up late, snagging two more picks to seal the win.
With the victory, the Cougars stay perfect at 4-0 and continue to look like a team on a mission.d
