The Ohio Bobcats strutted into Jacksonville looking to kick off their NDL season with a dub, while the Jacksonville State Gamecocks were still trying to remember which way was up after getting flattened by Virginia. As 22.5-point underdogs, Jax State was basically expected to provide water and moral support, not actually win the game. But someone forgot to tell Tre Stewart, who trucked his way to four touchdowns, including an 87-yard soul-snatcher with 31 seconds left that could be heard echoing across the virtual landscape. Final score? Jacksonville State 38, Ohio 24. Vegas is still rebooting.
Ohio’s offense wasn’t exactly asleep—Parker Navarro threw three touchdowns, two of which were to tight ends so open you’d think they were contagious. But while they kept pace early, things unraveled faster than a clearance-rack sweater. A red zone fumble before halftime—after a monster sack with no timeouts left—left Ohio screaming at the clock like it had personally wronged them. Then came the cursed “square instead of circle” interception by Jax State, followed immediately by Ohio burning the confused defense for a 41-yard bomb. But just when it felt like the Bobcats were going to pounce, they threw a pick on the sideline, red zone hopes vanishing like their play-calling logic.
Despite Ohio racking up 479 yards to Jax State’s 447, the Gamecocks were ruthlessly efficient, converting 100% on third and fourth downs and looking like a completely different team from the Virginia disaster. Tyler Huff, despite throwing two picks (one thanks to someone’s geometry malfunction), still tossed for 284 yards. And Tre Stewart? Absolute chaos agent—145 yards rushing, a pair of catches, and enough broken tackles to make a rugby team wince. Jacksonville State’s defense, led by the user-lurking interception king Laletia Hale, bent but never broke. They even gave up a whopping 602 total yards… then won by two touchdowns. Football math is fake.
