Tulsa Stays Classy in Ft Worth

FORT WORTH, TX — Well folks, the stars were big, bright, and apparently aligned for the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa, who blew through Amon G. Carter Stadium with the force of a thousand saxophone solos, defeating the Bowling Green Falcons 35-24 in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. And yes — that’s Armed with an “A,” not “Armani.” This was war, not a runway.

The game began with a BANG — and by bang, I mean a 62-yard pick-six courtesy of BGSU defensive back Todd Bumphis, who took Tulsa’s quarterback Cooper Legas’ hopes and dreams and ran them all the way to the house. Falcons fans were barely done high-fiving when Jackson Kleather booted a 24-yard field goal, giving Bowling Green a 10-0 lead and inspiring a brief panic in the local weather bureau, mistaking the scoreboard for a barometric anomaly.

Tulsa didn’t so much wake up as rise like a Phoenix that pays taxes in Oklahoma. With just under six minutes left in the second quarter, Bill Jackson punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to cap off a grueling 14-play drive — which, fun fact, was longer than the entire movie “Speed 2: Cruise Control” emotionally.

But Bowling Green wasn’t done. After Cooper Legas got rocked like a ‘70s yacht party and fumbled the ball, Terion Stewart capitalized with a tough 2-yard score to push the lead to 17-7. However, Tulsa’s QB responded like a man who had just remembered his mother was watching. With 27 seconds left in the half, Legas snuck in from a yard out, trimming the deficit to 17-14 at halftime.

Then came the third quarter… cue dramatic jazz flute solo.

Tulsa took over like a motivational speaker with a fog machine. Bill Jackson rumbled in from seven yards out to give the Golden Hurricane a 21-17 lead. Then, in the fourth quarter, Sher (just Sher, like Cher with a running back license) blasted through on a 4-yard score, stretching the lead to a comfy 35-17.

BGSU showed heart, hustle, and probably some caffeine in the closing minutes, with PaSean Wimberly diving in for a 4-yard TD to make it 35-24. But the Falcons ran out of time — and, let’s be honest, Tulsa ran out of mercy.

With the win, Tulsa wraps up the season at a spicy 9-4, shattering projections and possibly some regional algorithms. Seven wins above expectations? That’s the kind of overachievement that deserves a fountain soda and a slow-motion locker room speech.

As the confetti fell and the troops saluted, one thing was clear: Bowling Green came to battle, but Tulsa came to win — and they did it with grit, grace, and a whole lot of ground game.

Stay classy, Armed Forces Bowl. Stay classy.
